We celebrated Jim's life on Saturday, August 9, 2014. The pavilion at Lanikai Park was our meeting place and we walked to the Kaiolena beach for the Paddle Out. Many thanks to all who helped and attended this nice event, especially Chaplain Bill Crockett Jr., an old friend of Jim, who provided the blessings; and Tim McKeague, another old friend and Lanikai neighbor who assisted with the park location and canoes. A special mahalo goes to Hurricane Iselle, which dispersed after hitting the Big Island on August 8. The very next morning, we had wonderful weather on Oahu -- and Lanikai was gorgeous.

Jim Pate, Crazy Shirts photographer from the mid-1980s through the Fall 2014 catalog, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 in Honolulu. He was born August 10, 1945 and had many friends in Hawaii and California. Jimmy worked hard but always found time to goof around too. Jim's last catalog (Fall 2014) has a beautiful 113-ft brigantine with 13 sails an 86-ft mast, something Jim wanted to shoot for a long time. We are all so sad that Jim will not be around to take beautiful photos and make us all smile and laugh. Monday, May 19, began nice enough. It started as a typical lovely day in Honolulu. Jim got up early and got ready for a morning meeting, the first meeting to talk about the next Crazy Shirts photo shoot for the Christmas 2014 catalog. CEO Mark Hollander was in town and Jim was excited to see everyone again and present his ideas. He had been diagnosed with walking pneumonia just 2 weeks earlier, but wanted to shoot the photos on schedule, though he felt terrible. A half-hour after that Monday morning meeting, while riding as a passenger in the van, Jim's breathing became erratic and he passed out. Though the ambulance was there within a minute and whisked him to the emergency room just a mile away, the hospital staff was not able to save him. The Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as massive pulmonary embolism. During the 3-day Memorial Day weekend which followed, several groups of Jim's many friends held gatherings in his honor. Now we want to honor Jim with a touching ceremony with a scattering of his ashes at Lanikai Beach, Kaiolena Beach access, on the morning of Saturday, August 9. Jim's family will be there: his older sister Dorothy Bramlett, and her children Wilma Whalen and Jim Bramlett, all of Kailua. Jimmy loved celebrating his birthday (August 10) and will be amused that we honor him the day before, allowing more time to remember him the next day too. Please add your photos and memories to this website, Remembering Jimmy, or bring them with you on Saturday. TOUCH "Add Comment" after every post to write your own thoughts or memories. Email your photos to [email protected] TOUCH THE PHOTOS to see the whole photo and the caption. Use the arrows on the left and right to go backwards and forwards through the photos in that section. PLEASE PASS THIS WEBSITE ALONG to anyone who knew Jim. Crazy Shirts is including this spread honoring Jim in a summer insert. Crazy Shirts' CEO & President Mark Hollander wrote the touching message. The images were some of his favorites from more than 20 years of catalogs.
